Mental Health Education

“An after-school program that seeks to educate high school students about the importance of gaining and maintaining a healthy mental state.”

Main Goal of the Program

The first goal: To teach the concept of The Ecological Systems Theory to the program participants.

Objective: Teach each part of the theory and how every system within the theory plays a role in their own lives and mental state.

Importance of This Program
This program will dive into self-care methods and consist of educational videos, guest speakers who share their experience with mental illness, and ways to protect the brain for getting the negative effects of mental illness. Through the use of the Ecological Systems Theory and the Human Ecology Theory, the educational program will serve as a Family Life Education prevention program for mental illness among adolescents.

Population the Program is geared towards

High school students often live very busy lives, trying to balance academic, social, and spiritual lives. Unfortunately, it can also be hard to find time in an adolescent’s busy schedule to focus on self-care.

Another very significant goal for the Mental Health Education Program is to help students learn about the different types of mental illness that exist.

Different activities, like group discussions, will help the students understand the current view and often negative outlook that society has towards mental health. Questions within the group discussion that are geared towards methods to break down the stigma will be asked in order to promote critical thinking. Another objective for the second goal is to exemplify real situations of mental illness and the harm it can bring an individual.
